Joy Degenhart Announces Candidacy for 388th District Court

Joy Degenhart officially announces the launch of a campaign for election to Texas’ 388th District Court.

The 388th District Court is a family court that provides relief in the form of custody decisions and divorces to El Paso County.

As stated about the motivation behind her candidacy, “Our community needs access to a judge who is fair, impartial, and applies the law consistently to these cases. As Judge of the 388th District Court, I will bring dependability, impartiality and integrity back to this critical family court.”

Degenhart is a third-generation El Pasoan and active member of the community, contributing her time to several local organizations.

“I am committed to El Paso as a community,” said Degenhart. “I was raised here and returned after graduating law school to raise my son and begin my practice. I see firsthand the importance of a judge who shows up for work, allows litigants access to her courtroom, and who delivers fair and impartial rulings that are consistent with the Texas Family Code.”

Degenhart will be running against incumbent Marlene Gonzalez in the March 2024 Democratic Party primaries. As of now, no other candidates have announced for this seat.

The kickoff event for Degenhart’s campaign is projected to be held in early September.
